Our volunteer work day was Friday, 5/25; 8:30 - 3:00. ... We met up at the Blodgett Pk Open Space parking lot on Woodmen Road. ... Note the clean clothes. ... This area, including the peak, remains closed to the public.
This is called a shovel; it is used for shoveling and other cool stuff. :)
OK, can you tell - finally entering the burn area.
We organized into three work teams, each team doing the same thing in one ravine.
Note the log erosion barriers already in place. .. We'll be adding a lot more.
This is Eric's team, which he assured us was the Best Team! .. How we strove to live up to that challenge!
Our first log victim dutifully buried.
After driving in stakes, the final step is adding some grass seed just above the log.
A guy farther down the ravine used a chain saw to selectively cut down dead trees, which then became our logs.
Burial party bringing in another log - the heaviest part of our job.
Preparing soil for burial.
OK - victory! .. The Best Team, and everyone was suitably dirty and full of soot.
Thanks to RMFI for giving us this service opportunity - and great to connect with such wonderful and amazing volunteers.
