An initial key stop at the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center - http://www.gardenofgods.com
We hope to ascend a steep gully behind the Kissing Camels, ending up on the long ledge to the right and a little below the camels.
We're being legal today - with our official Climber's Permit.
A shot from atop Montezuma's Tower. .. The steep Tourist Gully is in the middle of the large rock formation on the left, with the Kissing Camels barely visible on top right. .. Robin did not see this image before her climb. :)
Looking at the upper part of the Gully, the beginning out of sight here.
We didn't have to stop, just pausing for a photo.
Practicing belaying a short section here up to the start of the real climb.
A family outing with a rock climbing guide handling the belay.
Time to put on our rock shoes, the lower end of the Gully rising to the right
On belay and coming up.
Montezuma's Tower is the lone thin fin rising right of center.
Note the climber atop the formation on the left.
This is harder than it may look - just as Robin.
Victory - atop the Tourist Gully at last.
The long ledge beyond the top of the gully.
As expected, the parking lot is full now with cars circling.
View to north.
Victory banquet, but we forgot the champagne. :(
Two happy campers - make that climbers. :)
Time to reverse course, Robin now going first as I belay.
Note the stormy clouds entering from the SW - and distant thunder was soon barking.
Yeah, you saw this before but it was actually taken as we departed - thus the BIG smile. :)
Three climbers, but none as high as we were!
Looking up at where we were, the highest ledge below the ridge top. .. Telephoto in next image.
Better shot of the ledge in telephoto here.
Robin's first outdoor climb - pushing the boundaries with courage and determination.
...... Thanks for joining us. ... Love & NTW, Bill
