This is the South Ridge Route (5.6, ***) on White Twin Spire at GoG. We had wanted to do the Potholes Route (5.7, **) again around the corner, but it was busy.
I had previously followed Rick McMorran's lead on this route (2.5 yrs ago). So, now my turn to lead, which I have now done in this scene, leaving the rope in place for Ben to follow.
However, I rapped down the left side, thus failing to properly set the top-rope belay for the second.
So, using another rope, Ben here basically re-led the route - with the first rope still in place if he needed it and with the pro already placed.
The route has just two bolts (actually pitons), and I placed three small cams in cracks. [Next time I'll add a couple of larger cams to the rack.]
Sometimes the hand and foot holds are self-evident - and sometimes they're kinda elusive.
And maybe you need to dance around a little to change the foot sequence. :)
Checking out a move to the left instead of following the crack.
[For a better view of Ben's face, look at the gallery here dated 7/23/06.]
[Let the record show that I climbed with expensive rock shoes, while Ben climbed with what were expensive jogging shoes when he got them over a year ago. He did impressively well.]
Ben being lowered down while "cleaning" the route (removing the pro).
A good kick-off to our first rock climbing session of '07.
