Sat, 8/6 - earlier in the day I climbed Mt. Baldy (10,064) with an old buddy. ... Then on to the Lintereurs for more action - and cards!
A self-portrait no less - way to go, Lance.
Meanwhile a gnarly kitchen adventure underway.
Get this - Lou can make dinner - or at least burritos.
OK - Sat night poker underway among the boys. .. Who's bluffing?
All smiles - and Uncle Bill is winning!
Meanwhile, some intricate side-action.
Sunday now. .. Religiously first thing every morning: coffee + the paper, just like his dad. :)
Lakeville Thanksgiving 2015 - Note Jake in training! :)
Almost ready for Sunday mass. .. Note Jake's cast, which meant not being able to join our Whitney team. :(
This guy knows how to crack a carton of eggs - and then scramble them all up to share.
OK, Sunday afternoon and Bill is on the way to Whitney Portal for an advance recon.
Not to be missed - our N. Fork cutoff, about a mile from the Portal.
The Mtneer's Route diverts up past the cut log. .. Best to scope this out in daylight, as we'll be starting the climb in the dark early Tues.
The North Fork of Lone Pine Creek.
OK, about 35 min later and a view of the Ebersbacher Ledges, the one spot where we'll likely rope up as we traverse from lower left to mid-upper right.
Back to the Portal Sunday evening, then I drove on to Independence for the night.
Monday now - I got my own Whitney permit at the Lone Pine visitor center to allow for Portal overnight parking; now hanging out from some teammates to show.

7:45 pm at the Portal and life is good. .. Of the six kids, only Eva was both interested and available.
A brief visit with unexpected old friends.
Lou is aiming for a good night's sleep. :)
Tuesday, 8/9, 03:30 - time to get this show on the road.
OK, start early ..... Our route was first climbed by John Muir, solo, October 1873 ... Way to go, John!
Scoping out the route and names. .. We'll be aiming for The Notch.
A drone shot of our trek: up the Mtneer's Route and then down the Mt Whitney Trail.
A broader view.
Yet another view of the MR - this time with snow.

After a prayer, ready to head up about 4:15, joined now by Lara who drove down from the Mammoth area. .. [Her son Kevin had been expected to join us, but he came down with a cold.]
A little over 6 miles to the summit with a gain of about 6200', so fairly steep!
At the base of the Ebersbacher Ledges.
Time to put on our hard hats and harnesses in anticipation of using the rope.
Yep - a young Lou & Clare on the 8/21/99 climb.
Hey, a bunch of gnarly mountain climbers here.
