Short side road off Pikes Pk Hwy leading down to Elk Park TH. At 12,000' marker.
You can see nearly horizontal line of trail across slopes.
Well, sometimes you can't see trail line. :)
Hmm, footprints? I must be looking behind me!
PP's Summit is to left of bump near middle of skyline.
Telephoto of last photo. Can you barely see structure on skyline in middle of photo?
Long ramp down into cirque.
Tunnel "trail" to right. But "trail" quickly evaporates.
Picking up Oil Creek, but actually N. Frk of French Creek.
Doesn't look oily. :)
Hey, the frickin' tunnel is open! Boiler off to right.
Creek emerges from the tunnel, even in winter when mouth is buried in snow.
Tubes stretch the length of boiler. See the opening in one!
Yeah, so go for it!
Note: it doesn't say Stay Out. Entrance is not blocked.
Walking on old timbers can keep your boots less wet.
Previous shot without flash.
Time to turnaround.
From mouth of tunnel, creek veers to side and then drops down this knoll.
Retracing route is not too hard.
I hope that's the photographer's shadow.
In this image, unseen tunnel is behind the tall tree in center, at far edge of forest, against rock wall.
Top of formations in Garden of Gods in center of photo.
And I had this special place all to myself. I am willing to share it with gnarly friends. :)
Photo from down at Crystal Creek Reservoir, near Mile 6. Summit on left of skyline.
Telephoto of last photo. Our slope/trail is behind treed ridge that lies below the road switchbacks on right. Summit is beyond the left side of photo.
