Tom and I departed COS at 5:45 am Sunday - passing a balloon out nowhere on the way.
Heading to Huron Pk - part of the Sawatch Range and in the Collegiate Pks Wilderness.
About 15 miles north of Buena Vista, head west on County Rd 390.

Joining up with Chris, Pat and 14er-first-timer Emily, arriving from Ft Collins area.
Tom contributed the Toyota Tundra to handle the rough 4WD road to the higher trailhead.
Success is assured - thanks to Lisa's killer "brown things."
9:10 and we're off - about 3 miles and 3400' gain to the Huron Pk summit (14,003).
We're taking the standard route - #1 here, on the west side of the peak. .. The new trail now also has many switchbacks in the upper section. ..[Remember: you can enlarge any image.]

Everything was still damp due to overnight rain.
Didn't take long for a clothing break as we warmed up.
View of Three Apostles to the south - weather looking good to start, but likely to change.
View to the west where the Continental Divide runs - Granite Mtn on left, Virginia Pk right of center.
Hey, it's Cousin Neil coming back from the summit already.
Next weekend he flies to Seattle for a climb of Mt. Rainier (14,411).
Close to treeline now and our first full view of Huron.
Trail will ascend up the foreground meadow, then along the ridge left of the summit.
Actually, all three of them are twins, but they no longer dress the same. :)
Not so much blue sky anymore.
Telephoto - a fair number of people on their way down.
Summit ridge looming up ahead.
Tom in red - taping a hot spot on his heel.
Pat & Emily leading the way.
Due to the taping, Tom and Chris have fallen a little behind, but we'll all reach the summit close to the same time.
