As our adventure begins - all smiles. :)

Telephoto - we'll ascent the gully on the north side of the peak, which rises to 9368'.
The trail is actually only about 3 miles RT, but close to 2000' gain - so a decent workout.
If we're really lucky, we might spot a mountain lion! .. [Any image can be enlarged: move mouse over it; from the menu that appears on the right, select size; when done, click Close in upper right.]
Mostly-dry creek bed on our left.
Now on the south side of the creek.
At last, the aspen meadow.
Blue Columbine - the state flower.
The steepest section was up from the meadow - now just emerging above tree-line on the summit. ... We're about 1hr-40 min from the car.
A slightly higher peak to the SW.
Telephoto: yep - Pikes Peak.
Checking to make sure that Mom and Elly are OK.
Kansas in the far distance.
Ready to launch on a Quick Descent!
Still just below the summit.
The top line says: VETERANS.
Ready to start down - then heading over yonder to Pikes Peak?
Part of the steep section above the meadow.
Back to the meadow - time to re-hydrate.
Bill already hydrated!
The boys in front of "The Waterfall" - though now dry.
Shot earlier in the year!
Same place frozen over in late winter - crampons needed for ascent.
Can this be - the same kids and still smiling!! ... JJ & Sam are now certified mountaineers!
Telephoto. .. We had the summit all to ourselves; saw a total of three lower on the trail.
On a weekend, the route sees a little more traffic, plus some cadets.
